Socialiteen: Agradecemos el tiempo que brindas para esta entrevista, de igual forma felicitarte por ser la representante de tu país, para iniciar coméntanos ¿Cómo se describe Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir?
Our editorial wants to congratulate you for being the beauty’s contestant of your country, How do you describe yourself?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Gracias a ustedes, me describiría como una persona muy devota, súper saludable, me encanta correr, hacer actividades al aire libre y mantener un estilo de vida saludable en general. Siempre he sido muy aventurera y mis amigos probablemente me describirían como una persona leal y agradecida porque nunca tomo nada en la vida por sentado.
I would describe self as a very devoted person. I’m super healthy, I love running, outdoor activities and a healthy lifestyle overall. I’ve always been very adventurous and my friends would probably describe me as a loyal and thankful person because I never take anything in life for granted.
Socialiteen: ¿Cuáles considerarías que son tus principales habilidades y debilidades? / What are your abilities and weaknesses?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Mi mayor habilidad es poder ponerme en el lugar de otras personas y creo que es una muy buena cualidad que una persona puede tener. Tengo una gran voz sobre la positividad corporal y creo que es una gran habilidad para difundir a las mujeres de todo el mundo.
Realmente no creo en las debilidades, porque una debilidad en mis ojos puede ser una cualidad en tus ojos. Es por eso que creo que la gente debería dejar de tratar de enfocarse en estas «debilidades» porque si todos nos deshacemos de ellas, entonces nuestro mundo no tendría esta hermosa diversidad que tiene que nosotros, las personas, tenemos.
My biggest ability is to be able to put myself in other people’s shoes and I believe that’s a really good quality a person can have. I have a big voice about body positivity and I think that’s a great ability to spread to women around the world.
I really don’t believe in weaknesses. Because a weakness in my eyes can be a quality in your eyes. That’s why I think people should stop trying to focus on these “weaknesses” because if we all would get rid of them, then our world wouldn’t have this beautiful diversity it has which we, the people carry.
Socialiteen: Que disfruta hacer Arna en su tiempo libre ¿Cuáles son tus aficiones? / What are your hobbies?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Soy una persona realmente deportiva así que mis pasatiempos son la gimnasia, el atletismo, de hecho soy un saltador de pértiga, lo más destacado de mi carrera de atletismo fue cuando gané el bronce en el European Team Championships 2014, ss un recuerdo que siempre valoro, pero también me gusta pintar con acrílicos, viajar y hacer senderismo en Islandia porque allí verás volcanes, glaciares, auroras boreales y toda esa magia que el universo tiene para ofrecer.
I’m a really sporty person so my hobbies are gymnastics, track and field but also, painting with acrylics, travelling and hiking in Iceland because there you’ll see volcanoes, glaciers, northern lights and all that magic the universe has to offer.

Socialiteen: ¿Que estudias? ¿O qué te gustaría estudiar y por qué? / What do you study? Or what would you like to study and why?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Mi sueño es ser partera, mi plan es comenzar a comenzar mis estudios el próximo año en la Universidad de Islandia. Pero también tengo una mente abierta para cambiar porque nunca sabemos qué puertas pueden abrirse y qué vida te traerá.
My dream is to become a midwife. My plan is to start my start my studies next year in the University of Iceland. But I’m also open minded for changing because we never know what doors can open and what life will bring you.
Socialiteen: ¿Cuál es tu lugar favorito y por qué? / What is your favorite place and why?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Mi lugar favorito es seguro el oeste de Islandia. Tiene un paisaje e historia tan hermosos. En el invierno, puede descansar en una fuente termal rodeada de montañas blancas, viendo bailar a las auroras boreales alrededor del cielo estrellado, simplemente magnífico.
My favorite place is for sure the Western Iceland. It has so beautiful landscape and history. In the wintertime you can lay in a hot spring surrounded by white mountains, watching the northern lights dance around the starlit sky, just magnificent.
Socialiteen: ¿Cuáles son los momentos que te han marcado hasta ahora? / What are the moments have marked you so far?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Por supuesto, muchos momentos en mi infancia y adolescencia, pero cuando realmente me defendí a mí misma y a cada mujer en este mundo y dije que no a la vergüenza corporal, es algo que represento todos los días y siempre lo haré.
Of course many moments in my childhood and teenage years but when I truly stood up for myself and every single woman in this world and said no to body shaming, is something that I stand for every day and will always do.
Socialiteen: Entrando un poco al tema de los certámenes ¿Cómo fue tu acercamiento a las competiciones de belleza? / How was your approach to beauty competitions?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Creo que los concursos pueden ser una gran plataforma para difundir sus palabras al mundo y lo que usted piensa que es importante, por ejemplo más igualdad, acabar con el terrorismo, los niños en las redes sociales y mucho más. Los concursos también pueden ser un gran impulso de confianza y muchas mujeres solicitan un concurso de belleza para ganar su confianza. Así que sí, creo que los concursos pueden ser una gran herramienta para ser la mejor versión de ti y más que eso.
I believe that pageants can be a great platform to spread your words to the world and what you think is important, f.x. more equality, ending terrorism, children on social media and so much more. Pageants can also be a huge confidence boost and many women apply for a beauty pageant to gain their confidence. So yes, I think pageants can be a great tool to be the best version of yourself and more than that!
Socialiteen: ¿Cómo te convertiste en la representante de Islandia para Miss Universo? / How did you begin the beauty’s contestant in Miss Universe?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Inicie con mi inscripción, pero mi primer concurso de belleza fue Miss Mundo Islandia 2015 y desde entonces siempre he querido llegar hasta el final. Y es por eso que mi desfile final es el único. Miss Universo.
It of course started with my apply but my first beauty pageant was Miss World Iceland 2015 and since then I’ve always wanted to go all the way ! And that’s why my final pageant is the one and only.. Miss Universe!
Socialiteen: ¿Qué significa para ti ser el concursante de tu país? / What does it mean for you to be the contestant of your country?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Significa todo para mí. Mi país es realmente único y cuando viajo, la gente suele estar muy interesada en Islandia, nuestra igualdad y éxito de muchas maneras, por lo que es un gran honor para mí representar al país del que estoy muy orgulloso.
It means everything to me. My country is really unique and when I travel people usually are very interested in Iceland, our equality and success in so many ways so it is a big honor for me to represent the country I’m so proud to be from.
Socialiteen: ¿Cómo te has preparado para el Miss Universo? / How have you been training to performance in the contest?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Hago todo lo posible para seguir siendo yo misma, pero he estado trabajando en el gimnasio, entrenando mis habilidades para entrevistas y, por supuesto, la actuación en el escenario. Entregarse a todos ustedes en un concurso como Miss Universo requiere mucho tiempo, paciencia y trabajo duro, y definitivamente así han sido mis últimas semanas.
I’m doing my best to keep on being myself but I’ve been working out in the gym, training my interview skills and of course stage performance. To give yourself all in a pageant like Miss Universe takes a lot of time, patience and hard work and that’s definitely how my past weeks have been.
Socialiteen: ¿Cómo valoras la belleza de las mujeres en la sociedad? / How do you value women´s beauty?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: La belleza de una mujer se puede definir de muchas maneras. Pero creo que si eres humilde y te representas con amabilidad y comprensión, ¡en verdad eres la mujer más hermosa del mundo!
A woman’s beauty can be defined in so many ways. But I believe if you are humble and represent yourself with kindness and understanding you truly are the most beautiful woman in the world !
Socialiteen: ¿Qué esperas de Miss Universo? / What do you expect from Miss Universe?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Miss Universo te ofrece recuerdos de toda tu vida, una amplia experiencia en muchas cosas, amigas de todo el mundo y, por supuesto, el valor que tiene una mujer con una belleza segura.
Miss Universe gives you lifetime memories, extensive experience in so many things, friends from all around the world and of course the courage that a confidently beautiful woman has.
Socialiteen: ¿Qué harías si te coronaran Miss Universo 2017? / What would you do if you were named Miss Universe 2017?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: ¡Continuaría difundiendo mis palabras sobre la positividad corporal y simplemente mostraría al mundo que Miss Universo es una mujer que respeta sus valores, defiende a otras mujeres y cree en sí misma! Quiero que todas las mujeres del mundo las consideren como Miss Universo. Eso realmente es una victoria.
I would keep on spreading my words about body positivity and just show the world that Miss Universe is a woman who respect her values, stands up for other women and believes in herself ! I want all women in the world to consider them selfs as Miss Universe. That truly is a victory.
Socialiteen: ¿Qué planes tienes después de participar en Miss Universo 2017? / What plans do you have after participating in Miss Universe 2017?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Normalmente no tengo planes extremos porque nunca sabemos qué puertas se pueden abrir. Pero mi plan futuro es convertirme en partera, así que probablemente comenzaré mis estudios el próximo año y espero trabajar más como modelo.
I usually don’t have extreme plans because we never know what doors can open. But my future plan is to become a midwife so I will probably start my studies next year and hopefully work more as a model.
Socialiteen: ¿Qué recomendarías a las jóvenes que desean participar en algún certamen de belleza o modelaje? / What would you recommend to young women who wish to participate in beauty ceremonies or modeling?
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir: Primero que establezca sus límites y valores al comienzo de su carrera. Respete sus sentimientos y su cuerpo, de lo que puede lograr cualquier cosa que desee en la vida, y al mismo tiempo, se sienta seguro y feliz.
Set your limits and values in the beginning of your career. Respect your feelings and body, than you can achieve anything you want in life, and at the same time feel confident and happy.
Socialiteen: Para culminar la entrevista ¿Algún mensaje que quieras dar a nuestros lectores y seguidores? / Any message you want to give our readers and your followers?
