I&#8217;m involved in a number of different worlds that people are often surprised to hear what I do. As an individual, I would describe myself as being adventurous, curious and often charmingly awkward. I love to learn new things ranging from sports and science to different country cultures and individuals&#8217; stories. This probably explains how I ended up studying engineering and working in professional sports at the same time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Socialiteen:<\/b> Haciendo una reflexi\u00f3n personal, \u00bfcu\u00e1les considerar\u00edas son tus habilidades y debilidades?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Lauren Howe:<\/b> Una de las cosas que m\u00e1s me enorgullece es mi nivel de comodidad para conocer y hablar con extra\u00f1os. Mi madre tiene un gran coraz\u00f3n y es muy sociable. Viajamos bastante juntos a medida que crec\u00eda y siempre hab\u00eda observado lo bien que se conectaba con personas que solo conocimos. My mother has a big heart and she is very outgoing. We traveled quite a bit together as I grew up and I had always observed how well she connected with people we just only met. By being around her in these moment, I like to think I picked up some of this skill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Being from central Canada, I&#8217;m proud that I can surf.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Weakness: Sometimes I have a tendency to add just a little too much to my plate where I forget to take time for friends and simply relaxing!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Socialiteen: <\/b>En tu tiempo libre, \u00bfCu\u00e1les son tus hobbies?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Lauren Howe:<\/b> Fotograf\u00eda, videograf\u00eda, boxeo, cualquier deporte de equipo (f\u00fatbol, baloncesto), senderismo con mis perros y viajes de aventura. \u00a1Me encanta explorar siempre partes \u00fanicas y remotas del mundo!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Photography, videography, boxing, any pick up team sport (soccer, basketball), hiking with my dogs and adventure travel. Angelina Jolie no solo es una persona talentosa, sino que tambi\u00e9n us\u00f3 su plataforma y su voz para destacar los problemas m\u00e1s importantes del mundo. In terms of well known role models, I have a lot of respect for Angelina Jolie and Sheryl Sandburg. Angelina Jolie is not only a talented individual, but she also used her platform and her voice to highlight key issues in the world. Sheryl Sandburg is a professional role model of mine because she is a key player helping move women forward in the workplace towards equality. This is an issue close to the heart since I have worked in mostly male-dominated industries where there is a lack of females in leadership. I hope to be a part of this movement my inspiring young women to battle against these stereotypes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Socialiteen: <\/b>\u00bfQu\u00e9 consideras que te motiva en la vida?<b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What do you motivate?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Lauren Howe: <\/b>Estoy motivada por ideas y conceptos que pueden tener un impacto duradero en nuestro mundo. I was drawn to engineering partly because it provided you with the skills you need to come up with solutions that can change the world around ya. What do you study? Or what would you like to study and why?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Lauren Howe:<\/b> Estudi\u00e9 Ingenier\u00eda Industrial en la Universidad de Toronto, es un tipo de ingenier\u00eda que se centra en los sistemas, la optimizaci\u00f3n y la interacci\u00f3n de las personas con estos sistemas. It&#8217;s a type of engineering that is focused on systems, optimization and the interaction of people with these systems. I started in Biomedical Engineering but chose to switch to this program because it could be a applied in a range of Industries and it intrigued me to study the idea of &#8220;how to make things better&#8221;. I tried out for Miss Teen Canada having no idea what to expect and a few months later I ended up winning! I feel in love with the supportive network that the community has and many of the women I have met have remained good friends to this day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Socialiteen: <\/b>Entrando un poco m\u00e1s al tema, \u00bfC\u00f3mo te conviertes en la representante de tu pa\u00eds en Miss Universo? \/ How did you begin the beauty\u2019s contestant in Miss Universe?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Lauren Howe:<\/b>\u00a0Competir en Miss Universo Canad\u00e1 parec\u00eda un paso natural despu\u00e9s de pasar por la corona como Miss Teen Canad\u00e1. Compet\u00ed en 2014 y obtuve el segundo lugar, pero estoy incre\u00edblemente agradecida de que no haya ganado en este momento. I competed in 2014 and placed 2nd runner up, but I am incredibly grateful that I didn&#8217;t win at this time. I have grown tremendously in those three years that I this is the right time to represent Canada at Miss Universe. It&#8217;s been a dream of mine since a child watching the show with my mother and I don&#8217;t think the reality of it has sunk in yet. One example is that I want to start conversations and programs that help encourage and empower young women to explore and grow in STEM fields (science technology math and engineering). I also have a specific global project I have in mind but am keeping this a secret for now ;).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Socialiteen: <\/b>\u00bfQu\u00e9 planes tienes despu\u00e9s de participar en Miss Universo 2017? \/ What plans do you have after participating in Miss Universe 2017?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Lauren Howe:<\/b>\u00a0Mucho de esto depende del resultado de Miss Universo.
